[synopsis] => Cookie is a genius-Milk, a daredevil. Cookie loves math and science while Milk loves sports and adrenaline. They are opposites. But they're also best friends.

Without Milk, Cookie couldn't imagine her best inventions. And without Cookie, Milk couldn't do the cool stuff that she loves to do.

But can smart and sporty really go together?

Follow this dynamic duo through their skateboard stunts and tubular-tastic surfs to discover what lies beneath true friendship.

Written by Michele McAvoy, this First Place Dragonfly Book Award winner breaks stereotypes and puts the fabulousness of STEM in the limelight. It is sure to entertain, excite and endear young readers and parents alike.

This book comes with a free Reader's Companion, complete with discussion questions, lesson plans and activities to go beyond the book. Download your copy direct from the publisher website.

The best book for positively embracing STEM and diversity.

Cookie & Milk carries the key message of STEM advocacy, multi-racial families and diversity supported by the many advocates of positive parenting solutions. It'll sit comfortably on your shelf alongside other books that focus on similar issues, such as the work of Andrea Beaty (Ada Twist Scientist) Beth Ferry (Stone). Michele McAvoy is an inspirational speaker & award-winning children's book author from New Jersey. As a child, she read Judy Blume and drew Garfield comics. For her 10th birthday, she asked for a pink typewriter. Michele always loved the smell of new books. Now all grown-up (typewriters near obsolete) she loves bringing joy to children through her own stories. Michele's books are uplifting and colorful and are meant to help children navigate through the natural bumps and curves of life. Her 3rd picture book, Cookie & Milk with Cardinal Rule Press, released October 1. Cookie & Milk was selected as a Top Shelf Title with IPG and was touted as "Smart, sassy, supportive girl power to the max!" by Kirkus. Michele's books are sold at bookstores across the country as well as online. Pick up a copy! You can find Michele on social media @michele_mcavoy on Twitter and @michelemcavoy on Instagram. Cookie is a genius-Milk, a daredevil. Cookie loves math and science while Milk loves sports and adrenaline. They are opposites. But they're also best friends. It can be hard to make friends when your personalities clash.
McAvoy's friendship tale features two girls who recount how they learned to be friends and bonded over their personality differences. Cookie is a brown girl who loves science, and Milk is a white girl who loves sports. The girls banter back and forth, recalling how they discovered they have fun playing together-especially when they use their complementary personalities to accomplish something awesome! If Milk wants to skate, then Cookie is in the background helping her reach her fullest potential by building a ramp, for instance. Throughout the book, early readers will love guessing what Milk's younger brother is trying to communicate (he also slyly breaks the fourth wall) when he introduces fans to exciting new science words such as "engine's ear!"-er, "engineer." Caregivers will also find helpful starter questions to ask when exploring differences with their kids. Those questions provide a framework within which young readers may learn to value and accept differences in themselves and others. Even after the story, readers are provided with a list of powerhouse women who were either "smart" or "sporty," and a glossary of words encourages supportive friendships. Gibson's simple, cartoon illustrations playfully remind girls that there are universal commonalities in sisterhood.
Smart, sassy, supportive girl power to the max!
